Mission

MEF’s mission is to provide the funds needed for new programs and educational resources that complement existing curriculum goals and objectives. The granted programs are designed to enhance the educational opportunities for students in the Marlborough Public Schools. MEF relies on the generous support of individuals, families, organizations, and businesses in the greater Marlborough area to provide the funding needed for these grants.

History

MEF was begun in 1996 by a few parents in the City who had become alarmed by cuts in the school budget that threatened the creativity and potential quality of our children's educational experience. After a year and a half of initial fundraising and negotiating the State and Federal processes of setting up a private non-profit foundation (with a good deal of initial support from Attorney Arthur Bergeron, Hudson Savings Bank Foundation, and the four Home and School Associations), MEF was finally ready to award its first round of grants. We gave out $3,540 to fund four projects. Since then we have funded over $203,000 to programs serving every school in the district.

We are proud of our accomplishments, but are also especially proud of the community involvement in our events and the support we have gotten from both families and businesses alike. Please take the time to see what we do and either join us in our attempts to provide much needed resources to the schools, or help us out with as generous a donation as you can. Our children thank you.

FAQs

Q. How do I get involved?

A. MEF is a worthwhile and rewarding experience. Your volunteer efforts have direct impact in the Marlborough Public Schools. The MEF board meets 5 tmes per year. There are also opportunities to volunteer at the Roller Skating event, Thank-an-Educator program or help soliciting corporate donations. Please feel free to contact any board member for more information.

Q. How can I donate?

A. There are several ways to donate.

For businesses:
A donation to the MEF will be directly distributed through the annual grant cycle. We will list your business in our printed material and our web site.

If your business would like to contriibute annually and is interested in a specific area related to your business such as science or mathematics, MEF will set up an account such as In Perpetuity Account in your business name.

For individuals:
The money that we give to our City’s teachers and administrators for the programs that make our children’s school experience even better comes from you! We raise money through direct solicitation and through special events held a few times every year. These include our March Madness, 5K Spring Thaw Road Race and our Holiday and Spring Thank-an-Educator program that allows parents and students to make a donation to MEF and honor a special teacher.

Q. How do I apply for a grant?

A. Please see the web page on grants.
